Trains, trains, trains!

The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that I’ve added a new gallery section to the site recently. Welcome to the Lifestyle Galleries! Check it out if you’ve not come across it yet.
Here you’ll find photos which either don’t really fit in anywhere else, or which I wanted to group as their own theme, such as air shows, fireworks, etc.

The first brand new set of photos in this new category is a vintage steam train theme. Friends of mine had mentioned this photography events company to me and since it sounded like a new challenge and something fun, I went to check it out.
The event I signed up for was held at Didcot Railway Centre in Oxfordshire, where we had full access to the old train shed and the locomotives that were lined up on the 5 platforms inside.A bunch of actors were also on site to stage some supposedly authentic scenes for a rather large crowd of budding photographers to shoot from a variety of angles.

it was a fun evening, and I came away with quite a few photos I really like, but I don’t think it’s something I will take part in on a regular basis. Whilst it’s good to push outside of my comfort zone every so often, I’m not a big fan of setting up my camera, and getting THE shot in the space of a minute, with another 30 photographers wedged closely also trying to get the same shot. Kind of takes away the magic of it all.
